Chinese New Year of the Dog 2018 Arts Festival

 

INVITATION TO ARTISTS

Chinese New Year of  the Dog 2018 Arts Festival (here after called the CNY Arts Festival) is organized and curated by International Arts Gallery (here after called the Gallery) and Va-fair –Vancouver Art Fair Ltd.

This CNY Arts Festival will be hosted at International Arts Gallery during the signature event of Celebrating Chinese New Year of Dog 2018 @ International Village Mall, Unit 2083 -- 88 Pender Street West, Vancouver.

This CNY Arts Festival is aiming for the exceptional quality of original art. Selection is based on excellence, creativity, originality, and technical achievement with an emphasis on artistic accomplishment.

This is a themed show dedicated to the year of the Dog in the Chinese zodiac. Works featured in this show must abide by the theme, but do not solely need to be dog-themed; they can also be with elements in relation to Chinese culture and the New Year.

Certificates will be awarded for Best in Show; Best Work Under Glass; Best Work on Board or Canvas; Best 3-Dimensional; Best Photograph/Digital Media; and Peoples’ Choice awards. All awards will be presented at the Show Preview for artists and invited guests.

ELIGIBILITY & GUIDELINES

  • CNY Arts Festival is open to all professional Artists
  • CNY Arts Festival and to students from all Art Universities and Art Colleges

 

Requirements:

  • Artist must be the creator of the work
  • Submission of one JPG images per artwork
  • Exhibiting is free but there is a gallery commission on sales
  • The show is invitational after enquiry with organizer
  • Artwork must be original, not made from kits or mass moulds or be mass-produced
  • Sale value of each piece of inventory should be within range of $10 to $3000 maximum

If you are selected to participate, the gallery will install and handle the sales for the duration of the exhibition. The Gallery retains a 50 per cent commission fee.

ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL 3:00 PM ON Monday 8th January, 2018.

CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

You may apply in more than one category to be exhibited in the same space, but you must submit separate images for each medium. PLEASE NOTE: If you are accepted, you may exhibit only in the categories for which you have been curated in. Artists may not apply more than three artworks submission in the same category.

Painting
Works created using oil, acrylic, or watercolor paints on canvas, archival paper, or handmade paper.

Ceramics
Original clay work, no machine made or mass produced work will be accepted.

Digital Art
Work in which the original image was created by the artist, using a computer. Work must be limited editions, signed and numbered, on archival quality materials. Photographs taken through a digital capture device (i.e. camera) must apply in the “Photography” category even if it has been manipulated in post processing using a computer. Reproductions must be in signed editions of no more than 450.

Fiber
No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns or other forms of mass production accepted. This category is intended for handcrafted fiber, straw, leather, or other similar materials. No studio production work will be accepted.

Glass
No molds or other forms of mass production allowed.

Jewelry
No commercial casts, molds, or production studio work.

Photography
Art using a camera, including black and white or color digital or original prints from negatives. Prints must be made from the Artist’s original work, be processed by the Artist, properly signed and numbered


Printmaking
Printmaking is defined as multiple originals where the artist’s hand has manipulated the plates, stones, blocks, composite reliefs, or screens and which are properly signed and numbered in limited editions. Photocopies, giclées, or offset reproductions are not permitted.

Sculpture
Art that is 3-dimensionally sculptural and is original work done in any medium.

Woodwork
Original, hand-tooled, machine worked or carved work. If painted or inlaid with a different material, applicants should choose 3-D Mixed Media or Functional Art.
